You’ll find me spending a lot of time digging in the dirt right now.

It’s that time of year when the weather gets warmer, the garden comes alive and I want to spend most of my time outside digging in the dirt.

I discovered a passion for flowers and gardening about 3 years ago.  I can’t believe I lived the first 37 years of my life completely oblivious to plant life.  I never spent any time outside in my garden (I do love the outdoors though and always have loved hiking, etc.).  But I never paid attention to our landscape or anything.  That was my hubby’s job.

These days, it’s hard to keep me inside.  And this is why.  Mother nature is so gorgeous!

All of these flowers are done blooming already.  This was from a few weeks ago.  I had my Irises blooming like crazy just recently and I have those pics somewhere, but don’t recall which camera I took those with.  LOL

Are you guys spending any time in your gardens?

Plant list:  lungwort, bleeding heart, tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinth, 1 bloom on my new magnolia tree, quince, jack frost brunnera, vinca and creeping buttercup.

  1. What beautiful and colorful flowers! Love those bleeding hearts! I’ve been spending more time working on our yard than I normally would. The property is much smaller than our house in PA so it’s not overwhelming. My problem is remembering to water daily. We haven’t had much rain, so I have to stay on top of that or else everything will die.

    1. Our property is an acre, but it’s not all landscaped…might be eventually. I don’t have a problem remembering to water everyday, but I do sometimes forget to water my indoor plants..I guess cause it isn’t every day. But I enjoy going outside and first walking around all the gardens and take in the beauty. Then I start to water. It’s a very relaxing thing for me!

  2. beautiful! I kill everything I try to plant so I don’t anymore. I gave it the good old college try though 😀

    1. Grace, there are some plants that are very low maintenance. Once you get them going, you never need to do anything else. You never know, maybe one day, you too will start to enjoy it! 😉

    1. Thanks Tiana. Do you mean indoor plants or outdoor plants. I’m better with outdoor plants than the indoor kind, honestly. LOL

      I’ve found that it’s super relaxing for me..it’s a de-stresser!

  3. Not flowers so much, but we have a huge vegetable/berry garden. We have radishes, onions, potatoes, green beans, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, lettuce, spinach, pumpkins, blackberries, and white raspberries. It’s more my husband’s hobby, but I try to get out there at least once a week to help out. I love not having to spend money in the produce department at the grocery store 🙂

    1. Hey Kimberly. Yes, we do vegetables too. Not as big a variety as you though. We normally do sweet peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas. We also have strawberries, gooseberries, blueberries and raspberries. My MIL (3 houses down) usually does potatoes and garlic. And our neighbors give us TONS of zucchini. A different neighbor already gave us some awesome green leaf lettuce that we had with dinner a couple of days ago. The hubby and the kids work with the veggies and I work the flowers! 😉

  4. Beautiful flowers!

I have a few tomato plants, and this year I added a couple blueberry bushes, but other than that I’m an indoors girl. Our old house was on a big corner lot and the yard was beautiful when we moved in because the people who lived there before us were retired and spent all their time working in their yard. We couldn’t keep up with it, and after a couple years gutted it and made it very, very simple. I came across a snake in the yard a number of times over the years and that took away the last of my motivation to work out there. (Since you let a snake live in your house I’m guessing that doesn’t bother you. Did you ever find it?) When we bought a new house a couple years ago we looked for one with a small/easy yard to care for.

    1. Kari, I was the same way…only I never did anything cause my hubby did. I had no idea I would enjoy it so much. But you did it and know it’s not for you.

Yeah, snakes don’t bother me..whenever we would go hiking with the kids and find a snake, we’d tend to bring it home. We did eventually find it. It was almost 3 weeks later..found him on a Sunday and he went missing on a Monday. He must have gotten hungry as he came out of hiding and was waiting for us at the bottom of our basement stairs. LOL

We have a menagerie of animals at our house Kari. With 3 boys and my oldest wanting to be a wildlife biologist..I guess it’s to be expected. We have a snake, a turtle, gerbils, hamsters, chickens, quail. pigeons, rabbits, canaries (my hubby is a breeder), fish (many) and 2 dogs..LOL I don’t think I missed anything..but I might have. 😀

Luckily I only take care of the dogs (a little bit)! The kids want animals, they need to care for them.
