My First Time Setting Goals
One of the best decisions that I made in 2017 was setting some goals and blogging about it weekly. I didn’t think I’d be able to blog about it every week, but except for one week that I missed when I was out of town, I wrote about my goals every week.
I think that being able to share these goals and writing about them weekly kept them in the forefront of my mind and helped me remember what I wanted to accomplish.
Permission to Change
Early in the year I dropped one of my goals – to try a different ethnic restaurant every month. It was something that I wanted to do for date nights with my hubby. I thought it would be fun and it’s something that we talked about doing sometime, but I quickly realized that it wasn’t happening. And I felt a little too much self pressure when I didn’t go.
So I gave myself permission to drop that goal altogether and I was okay with that.
I don’t want my goals to be so set in stone that I can’t make any changes or feel horrible if I don’t accomplish something I’ve set out to do. I simply want these goals to be a weekly reminder of what my priorities are and what I want to do.
Out of Sight, Out of Mind
It’s so important to write down your goals. I know that there are so many people out there that don’t want to set goals. Maybe they are afraid of what people will think if they don’t accomplish them. Maybe they are afraid of what will happen if they DO accomplish them. I’m not sure. But prior to last year, I just wasn’t really into goal setting. But then I started to read Mavis Butterfield’s goal posts. They inspired me much that I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad that I did.
The weekly reminders of writing about it on the blog helped me stay motivated. And sending these goals our to the universe made me feel more accountable. Motivation and accountability, that’s where’s it’s at!
Plans for 2018
This year I’m a little late to the party as I’m still working on my 2018 goals list. I still haven’t finalized my list for this year.
I do know that I will be repeating some of the goals that i set for for myself last year because some of those things are really important to me and I want to keep doing them. These things include increasing my Ebay sales, date nights with hubby, savings goals, tracking our spending, exercising, minimizing and having an attitude of gratitude. These are things that I want to continue doing because they make me feel good and make me happy.
I can’t wait to share my new goals with you soon. Thanks for being my accountability partner!
Did you set goals in 2017? How did you do?
