Ebay Selling – Owls & The Real McCoy – Selling Imperfect Items

I was at a garage sale about a month ago when I came across two owl planters.  You guys probably know that owls are still hot in today’s market.  And I’m always on the lookout for unique owl art, pottery and figurines.  So when I saw these planters, I knew I had to have them.

I accepted a best offer on this one for $35 plus shipping and it sold within the first week.  I still have one more for sale.  The gentleman that was selling these was selling collectibles and knew the value of these items.  He wanted $5 each for them and said that I could resell them at my garage sale if I ever wanted too and make money on them..LOL  But he gave them to me for $4 each.

I’ve read about the McCoy pottery company before and knew that it is a good seller.  I was just worried as both of these planters had one side that was slightly cracked.  But I figured that if they didn’t sell, I would just keep them.  I highlighted the crack and make reference to it in the description and it still sold.

Have you been selling any owl related items or McCoy pottery?

    1. Hi Kimberly..I got you updated in my reader..I read about it I think on Lorraine’s blog. You should maybe do a post on the old site letting readers know..in case you haven’t yet. 🙂

  1. Great sale! I recently sold an owl cross stitch picture that was already finished and framed for $21.95…paid $2.00 for it. I also have a set of 3 Avon owl decanters for sale right now and this past weekend I found the cutest set of 4 owl glass containers that have a candle in them. They were in perfect shape until I got them home and I knicked a spot off of one of the beaks! Oh well, it’s hardly noticeable and I will mention it in the listing when I list them! ~~Pam

    1. Nice flip on the owl cross stitch Pamela! Owls are definitely cute and I can see the appeal! I have quite a few owl related things too, I just have to find them in the unlisted inventory. I tend to stay away from Avon stuff. I know some of it sells, but a lot of it doesn’t. There is just so much to learn and know in this business! 🙂

      1. I saw that you sold the Avon owl decanters Pamela. I normally pass on Avon stuff, but I probably would have gotten those too. They are really cute!!!

  2. I just listed a nice owl pottery votive/lantern. It’s not a McCoy, but it’s really cute. I hope it sells for my asking price. I can’t believe that owls are still so popular.

    1. I went to check it out. I love it! Seriously..owls are so cute. What’s not to love about them. Glad they still sell well..cuz they are everywhere. I actually have a really cute Owl Cookie Jar that I haven’t listed yet. It’s been crazy this week. I only listed 3 measly things this week and am going out of town for work and won’t be back until Monday night. Hoping to list a lot more next week. Gotta stop being a hoarder and start listing, listing, listing. Life just gets in the way sometimes. 🙂

  3. I am petrified of owls! Maybe because once at a music camp I put out my hand during the night to feel for my spectacles and put my hand on a young owl that was snoozing on the night stand! It had come in through the open window.

    1. Oh no..they are so cute iforonwy!! I used to have a bad phobia of bugs…it was really bad..but I’ve gotten over it..mostly!! I enjoy the outdoors too much and had to get over it. LOL

  4. Nice sale! I’ve never sold McCoy pottery, but it seems like whenever you can find a piece with an identifiable maker’s mark from a well-known potter, there is a good chance of a profitable sale. In my area, Goodwill seems to be a great place to come across ceramics that are easy to flip.

    1. The only problem with ceramics is that you REALLY need to inspect them good for cracks, etc. Which sometimes you miss at the store. I just picked up a piece of pottery from Portugal, which does really well. But it does have a crack that I missed, so I’m not sure how it will do. We’ll see. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
