A Problem Changing My Ebay Store Name

I’ve been wanting to change the name of my Ebay store name for a long time, but was never happy with anything.  Hubby and I went out of town right before the new year and came up with a name that we were both happy with.  So I changed the name of the store, the logo and banner to the following:

store name changeI thought I was all set with the new change, until I recently realized that my URL was still listed as the old store name.  Here are the instructions for those that would like to change the name.  More details are here on Ebay’s page.

store name change3I spent some time a couple of weeks back trying to figure out how to change the URL and I couldn’t. After spending a long while doing research and coming up with nothing, I thought that perhaps the problem may be the fact that I had originally created the store with the old store design and tried changing it with the new store design.  I had nothing to lose so I reverted back to the old store.

store name change2This is located to the right of your banner when you click on the little store icon next to your name.  When I did that, here’s what was showing:

store name change 1The OLD store information.  You cannot change this information unless you revert back to the old store.  Then you can modify it and it will automatically change the URL for you as well.

In case anyone else ever decides to change their name, this is how you need to do it in order for all the information to change.  Hope this helps someone as it took me like 2 weeks to figure out.

Happy Sales!

  1. Ah! That makes so much sense. I never updated my store URL.. But it’s close enough to my username now that I don’t mind. Great to learn how to do it though. I remember changing my user name and store name was not a simple switch. You had to go pretty deep into the eBay darkness to find any information!

    1. Yes, it was a pain and there is no reference to it anywhere. But I’m happy now that I fixed it. I print out an invoice that has my store’s URL in it, and it was bugging me that it didn’t match my store name. So now it does! 🙂

  2. This is awesome, I’ve been wanting (and needing) to change my store name for a while now so I’m glad I saw this before I tried. Thanks for sharing and for “taking one for the team” – two weeks is a long time 🙂

  3. Worked perfectly, thank you! Do you know if it will retain the new URL, if you change the store format, back to the ‘new’ stores format?

    1. Yes, it does retain the new URL even when you convert it back to the new store format. You can double check by clicking on your store and checking the URL, but it worked perfectly for me. Glad I could help!

  4. Thank you for posting this! I’m still having a little trouble. I don’t see anywhere that says Design your Store. I do have edit your store – but there isn’t a spot on the page to change the store link. Am I clicking in the wrong spot?

    1. There is no place to do it under the new store design. This is where you have to go and revert to the old store..then you will be able change the store name and web address.

  5. Ok so I reverted back to my old store and now when I go into edit the name of my store with the one I changed it to originally it is telling me my store name cant be the same as another users name. I at one point changed it to this name and now it wont let me? Any advice?

      1. That is so weird Eric. What I would do if first cancel out of everything and perhaps close out of your web browser and clear your history cache. And then try it again. If it still doesn’t work, then this may warrant a call to Ebay. Sorry it’s not working for you. Do let me know if you find a resolution. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Many thanks for the info, I’ve been trying to update my url following a shop name change and it had me stumped for 3 hours.
Thanks for taking the time to post the fix, easy when you know how!

  7. This was helpful but now how do I change back to the new design? It said I could do it on the “Manage my shop” page but I don’t see any options for this?

  8. awesome, what I needed to know.
while I’m on the site of someone who knows something about ebay selling….. do you got any ideas on using ebay pay per click to promote art, direct from the artist?
    Thanks, bkl

    1. Hi bkl. Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately, I don’t use any pay per click promotions so I wouldn’t be able to give you any info about that. You can always try and run an experiment by trying it for a short period of time and seeing if it helps. Good luck.
