My 2017 Goals – Week of October 23 – October 29

October 30, 2017

“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high,
one which sometimes seemed impossible.”
~ Orison Swett Marden

Update for the week of October 23 – October 29

I’m back to report my goals progress. Will I accomplish every goal?  Maybe not and I’m totally okay with it.  But if these goals are in the forefront of my mind, I know I will end up being in a better place at year end having focused on these goals/choices then I would be otherwise.

So thank you for being my accountability partner.

Here is this past week’s progress:

1. Pay off the remaining consumer debt. – consumer debt free – 4/16/17  – Paid off $137,000 since January 2013

NEW GOAL:  Start saving as much as possible for future goals!

I only saved $59 this week which was a deposit from an Amazon sale last week. I used to let the checking account just absorb these small little deposits, but I’ve decided that I’m going to save every little bit of extra money that comes my way.

Hubby gets paid every two weeks, this coming Friday being payday at which time I think we’ll be able to save a little bit too.  But I know it will be unlike last week where we saved over $4,000.  It felt really good to finally put some money into savings.

2.  Ebay sales of $20,000 and track how many hours I work each week.  (I’m embarrassed to have listed that number so high when I’ve not made this goal a priority whatsoever this year.)

This week I only made $91.98 on eBay and $17.26 on Bonanza for a total of $109.24.  No Craigslist or Amazon sales this week so the total in online sales is quite low (even though it shows an increase over last period).

I spent about an hour on ebay.  I did list a huge 45 pound lot of legos.  I recieved quite a few low offers, but I’m going to wait until it gets closer to Christmas…I’m almost certain that I’ll have better offers then.

3. Weekly date night with my husband.

Hubby’s 12 hour days are done…so we did go out on Thursday.  We went to the Outback Steakhouse with a gift card that we had.  We didn’t have steaks, however.  Hubby makes awesome steaks at home so we don’t use the gift cards for steaks.  Hubby had smoked baby back ribs instead and I had a grass -feed burger. Both were fantastic.  The date cost us $7, which was the tip.

4. Track our spending.

Yes, I’m continuing to do this.  I find that when I’m current on tracking our expenses (really tracking where ALL of our money is going), we spend less money on unnecessary things and save more.

5. Be more active/exercise.

I still don’t want to talk about it!

6. Let go of unnecessary stuff in my life (declutter/minimize/simplify – whatever you want to call it).

I was cleaning out a little storage bin in my closet that has office supplies.  In it I found a whole bunch of old CDs.  I burned a lot of them into my computer and onto my ipod and then donated them.  I burned the ones that i felt I still wanted to keep in my music library.

I’m glad to get rid of the CDs.  Although hubby says that I still have a big box of CDs in the basement.  So eventually, I will get to those too. It’s hard to get rid of those as a lot of them I can’t find online (youtube).  Many are ones that I purchased when I was in Europe (when I studied abroad in college) and ones I purchased online internationally that you really can’t find here.  Most were European dance mixes (which I still love).

I also had my son Mitchell clean and organize a cabinet in the Living Room.  Their games took up almost 3 shelves.  And now they only have 1 shelf for their games and I will have 2 shelves for some of our cameras, movies, DVD player and projector (hoping to get around to finishing that cabinet organization soon).

7. Organize and digitize all of our photographs.

I haven’t done much else with older photos, but I have been backing up all current photos.  I still need to finish with older photos.

8. Take more photos of my family and life.

My middle son (12 yo) loves card tricks and I found a brand new set of cards that I gave him. He found the pictured refund offer. I didn’t want him to send it in because the offer expired in 1999 and a stamp costs almost that much. But he really wanted to send it in to see if he’d get a response. And I love that he wrote a letter too.

This was his first time addressing an envelope by him self. He didn’t like how it was coming out. He didn’t like the last one either, but I wouldn’t give him any more envelopes.

Same kid…he went to play paint ball with some of his friends. These marks were all over his body. Doesn’t sound like fun to me, but he loved it!

9. An attitude of gratitude. I am grateful…

  • For family movie nights.  We have a projector and large screen that I used to use for my studio.  We now use it for movie nights.  We used to have movie nights when the kids were little and then stopped when the kids got older as they were home less and less.  My almost 16 yo Danny has been asking to watch movies lately and I love when we’re all together and watch movies on the big screen.  It’s like going to the movies, but cheaper.  We watched 3 movies this past week.
  • That Danny got over his stomach bug.  He missed 3 days of school because of it.
  • That although Mitchell had an Endoscopy at the hospital on Friday, he took it like a champ.  Didn’t seem afraid and did great.
  • For date nights with my husband.  I know some people can’t afford date nights, and I always felt guilty for going out with my husband and not taking the kids…until this year.  I don’t feel guilty anymore and I love our dates.  It’s a great way to show your kids that you are making your relationship with your spouse a priority.
  • That the weather is turning cold.  I’m looking forward to the coziness of the cold, the blankets, the fire in the fireplace and overall nesting at home.
  • For hubbies continued overtime.
  • For having a son in college and still wanting to call and tell his parents about whats going on.
  • For free movies at the library.  We watched Captain America Civil War and Free State of Jones…both excellent movies.
  • For Netflix.  We go back and forth between Netflix and Hulu.  I have another free month of Netflix and will be cancelling Hulu for now (until we become tired of Neflix).  I reactivated Neflix because they have Ceasar 911 (Ceasar Millan).  I’m having some issues with our dog Tiger and he is driving me insane…so hubby and now have been binge watching the show and trying some things out.  It seems to be helping, but it will take a lot of work.  The show is really eye opening.  It’s really not the dog that is the problem most times, it’s just that people don’t know what to do.  I love Ceasar.

What are you grateful for?

10. Microadventures. I love to get away.  It could be a day trip to the beach.  It could be exploring a new park or forest preserve.  And this year I want to focus more on little microadventures. I hope for 1 per month.

Nothing new to report.

12. Try new recipes.

Nothing new to report.

13. Chore free weekends. Try to get all our chores completed during the week so that weekends will be chore-free and guilt-free! (ON HOLD FOR NOW – working on some house projects )

Sunday was chore-free…but hubby spent all day Saturday working.  Blowing leaves, putting away rain barrels, cleaning up all kinds of stuff.

14. Read 52 books.  Last year I read a total of 53 books.  So I’m hoping to read at least 52 this year.  You can see which books I’ve read on my 2016 Books board on Pinterest.

No reading this past week.  Lots of movies and binge watching Ceasar 911 trying to learn how to correct some bad behavior from our dog Tiger.  We’ve starting working on him and are already seeing some results.  I know it will take a lot of work, but it seems to be helping.

Have you read any fabulous books lately?  Tell me about it?

How are your goals coming along??  I’d love to read about them in the comments!
