My 2017 Goals – Week of March 27 – April 2

April 4, 2017
Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try.

Update for the week of March 27 – April 2

I’m back to report my goals progress. Will I accomplish every goal?  Maybe not and I’m totally okay with it.  But if these goals are in the forefront of my mind, I know I will end up being in a better place at year end having focused on these goals/choices then I would be otherwise.

So thank you for being my accountability partner.

Here is this past week’s progress:

1. Pay off the remaining $40,000 of debt.

I did not add anything to the debt last week.  Still leaving $33,150 left on the debt.

2.  Ebay sales of $20,000 and track how many hours I work each week.

I only made $71.79 in Ebay sales. And I spent about 15 minutes on shipping.  I really need to get my but in gear with this ebay thing.  I’m no where I need to be to achieve this goal.

3. Weekly date night with my husband.

Hubby and I went to the movies Saturday night and saw Beauty and the Beast.  I loved the costuming in the movie.  I didn’t realize that it was a musical though, hubby hates musicals.  But he was okay with it and could appreciate it.  He thought the movie was really well done technically.

4. Track our spending.

I’m pretty caught up except for our expenses from last week.

5. Be more active/exercise.

I did quite a bit of walking this past week.  Leg is still not 100%. 🙁

6. Let go of unnecessary stuff in my life (declutter/minimize/simplify – whatever you want to call it).

Yes.  Went through my closet a little bit more.  Purchased some new velvet hangers and am replacing all of my old hangers and purchased some baskets for the closet too.  I have a lot of office supplies, board games we rarely play and other crap in my closets.  I am working on getting rid of that stuff either either by donating it or by putting some of the stuff I don’t use often away.  I want my closets and drawers to be used for stuff we use and access often.  There is just so much still to do.  This minimalistic approach is pretty good for me as I think I am/was a bit of a hoarder.  I still have office supplies from like 20 years ago.

I want to be frugal and save money, but I think that I am also at a point now that I’m beginning to be okay with getting rid of stuff that I might someday need.  I’m okay with then having to pay a little bit of $ to acquire it when I need it.  I’d rather not store the crap anymore.  It really does take up a lot of mental space too.

Ride side of closet. Striving for minimalism is good for a person with hoarding tendencies like me.

Left side of closet. The one I’ve started working on.  See the nice black and metal hangers.  Getting rid of those white ones.

7. Organize and digitize all of our photographs.

Ongoing project, but I didn’t do anything last week.

8. Take more photos of my family and life.

Yes, still happily doing so!

A selfie with my Dad.

Went to visit my parents in Wiscsonsin for a few days last week.  My Mom and I had gone for a nice long walk and i took out my phone and told her I’d like to take a selfie with her.  Later on as I was standing with my dad by a pond where my kids were fishing, my Mom opened the car door and told me to take a “selfie” with my Dad.  First time I had ever heard her use the word and thought it was so cute, especially since their primary language is Polish.  It made me laugh.  🙂

9. An attitude of gratitude. I am grateful…

  • That I got to visit my parents for a few days in Wisconsin with the kids last week (spring break).  And that after a couple of non stop rainy days, it was warm and sunny.
  • For having learned how to sew a little bit.  I took a huge back of clothes that I wanted to alter to my parents’ house since they have a sewing machine.  I spent about 4 hours sewing one evening.  It was a lot of fun.  I’m still learning, but I’m getting better.  Feels so good to get that project done.  It’s been piling up for over a year.
  • That my youngest son learned to play Rummy 51 so that now he can play with his Mom and Grandparents.  I grew up watching my parents and grandparents play cards with their friends and then eventually learned to play myself.  So happy that he can now join us as we play almost every time we get together.
  • That my oldest son got to visit a good friend who moved away last November.  Luckily he only lives about 1.25 hours from my parents.  They will be going to the same college, so I’m sure they’ll see plenty of each other then. One of his best friends now lives in Canada and now one lives in Wisconsin.
  • That my oldest son’s ankle is only sprained and not fractured.  It was really badly bruised and swollen and the doctors sent him for 2 different xrays to be sure it’s not fractured.

I know there is more that I am grateful for, but these are the things that come to mind.  What are you grateful for?

10. Microadventures. I love to get away.  It could be a day trip to the beach.  It could be exploring a new park or forest preserve.  And this year I want to focus more on little microadventures.

Yes.  We went to Wisconsin to see the grandparents for spring break.  We left Wed evening and came home Saturday around 1pm.  Always nice to get a way. It rained quite a bit until Friday, which turned out to be gorgeous.  So we took the kids to Castle Lake in Wisconsin.

It was a great place to go for a nice long walk.

Then Sunday hubby and I and our youngest son went to a local Flea Market.  It was fun to walk around and see what everyone was selling.  I haven’t been in a long time.  The flea market is always fun.

12. Try new recipes.

Nothing last week as we went out of town on Wednesday.

13. Chore free weekends. Try to get all our chores completed during the week so that weekends will be chore-free and guilt-free!

Yes. 🙂

14. Read 52 books.  Last year I read a total of 53 books.  So I’m hoping to read at least 52 this year.  You can see which books I’ve read on my 2016 Books board on Pinterest. Here’s what I’m currently reading:

How are your goals coming along??  I’d love to read about them in the comments!
