My 2017 Goals – Week of July 3 – July 9

“Obstacles are the raw materials of great accomplishment.”
―Tommy Newberry

I’ve had a lot of obstacles lately.  My apologies for posting this rather late, but I was out of town and didn’t have much access to the internet.  I haven’t even checked email all week.

Update for the week of July 3 – July 9

I’m back to report my goals progress. Will I accomplish every goal?  Maybe not and I’m totally okay with it.  But if these goals are in the forefront of my mind, I know I will end up being in a better place at year end having focused on these goals/choices then I would be otherwise.

So thank you for being my accountability partner.

Here is this past week’s progress:

1. Pay off the remaining consumer debt. – consumer debt free – 4/16/17  – Paid off $137,000 since January 2013

NEW GOAL:  Start saving as much as possible for future goals!

Nothing still.  Any extra that we have is going towards projects around the house right now.

2.  Ebay sales of $20,000 and track how many hours I work each week.

Last week was a bit slower.  I made $129.60 last week.  I spend another 2 hours organizing inventory and shipping items.

3. Weekly date night with my husband.

No date night last week.

4. Track our spending.

I have been trying to catch up.  A little bit behind.

5. Be more active/exercise.

Not much last week.  Still more mulching.

6. Let go of unnecessary stuff in my life (declutter/minimize/simplify – whatever you want to call it).

I started purging a few more things that haven’t sold on ebay for quite a few years.  I’m starting just to let some things go.  These are low priced items that I had picked up when I first started selling.

7. Organize and digitize all of our photographs.

Not much of that last week.

8. Take more photos of my family and life.

Glad I took a few more photos this time around.

Some fruit I harvested from my backyard. Mullberries, black currant and blueberries.

Propagating some boxwood bushes. I took enough cuttings to have 32 new bushes next year (if they all take).

My son qualified for the state Bass Fishing tournament in the Spring. He was quite excited!

My son overslept and missed his friend’s picking him up to pre-fish for the tournament so hubby and I ended up taking him to meet his fishing teammates. Here they are picking him up. We ended up exploring a neat free park (Calumet Park) right on Lake Michigan here in Chicago. This would make a nice place to watch the sunrise.

9. An attitude of gratitude. I am grateful…

  • Hubby was able to fix our airconditioner. Had to replace a huge part by making it himself.  Otherwise, it would have cost us about $5K. I will always be so grateful for how handy he is.
  • That our 15yo can grill and make us dinner.
  • For fourth of july fireworks.
  • For water parks.
  • For great magazines and the libraries that carry them. Garden Design magazine is amazing!
  • For great books (Floret Farm on hoopla through library).
  • For my knowledge of propagating plants.
  • For craigslist and being able to sell plants through the site.
  • For crazy hot days as they help you appreciate the cooler ones.

I know there is more that I am grateful for, but these are the things that come to mind.  What are you grateful for?

10. Microadventures. I love to get away.  It could be a day trip to the beach.  It could be exploring a new park or forest preserve.  And this year I want to focus more on little microadventures. I hope for 1 per month.

Nothing lasts week.

12. Try new recipes.

I did make a banana bread recipe that I found on allrecipes.com, but I can’t find the one I used.  I do really like that site.  All of the reviews are helpful in making the recipes work.

13. Chore free weekends. Try to get all our chores completed during the week so that weekends will be chore-free and guilt-free! (ON HOLD FOR NOW)

Lots of projects that we’re working on, so this will be on hold for a little while.

14. Read 52 books.  Last year I read a total of 53 books.  So I’m hoping to read at least 52 this year.  You can see which books I’ve read on my 2016 Books board on Pinterest. Here’s what I read/listened to last week:

No books to report this time around.

How are your goals coming along??  I’d love to read about them in the comments!
