1st Bonanza Sale & A Question For Other Bonanza Sellers

Okay, so I finally got around to importing my Ebay store into Bonanza and finalized everything a couple of weeks ago.  So I was very excited to get my first sale.

1st saleHowever, I guess I had a default checked somewhere to get approval before a sale.  So when I got the email that an sale was pending, I went it an approved it.  I noticed that nothing was marked for shipping, but figured it would automatically add the shipping at checkout.  Well, when the payment came through paypal, it did not include the shipping. What did I do wrong?

I have since changed the setting so that I don’t have to approve a sale.  And I checked and I have USPS shipping marked on all items.  So what happened in this situation.  Was it because I approved it without adding shipping to it?  A newby mistake?

It cost me $7.71 to ship this big and heavy Cookie Jar.  Luckily it was in my state and not going across the country.  It would have been a much costlier learning experience.

If you guys have any tips for this Bonanza newby, I’d love to hear.  Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Congratulations on your first Bonanza sale! I haven’t had this happen to me but I have read in the comments on Scavenger Life that the same thing has happened to other people where ‘free shipping’ was given when they knew they didn’t offer free shipping. I can’t remember if there was any solutions.

The one problem I’ve had with Bonanza is duplicate listings. I often find duplicate and sometimes triplicate of a listing when I’m looking at my Bonanza store.

By the way I’ve been listening to Dave Ramsey’s show and finding it very motivating. Thanks for recommending it to me.

    1. Hey Nancy, I think the problem was that I had by mistake marked that I needed to approve orders, And when I approved this one, I did not add the shipping to it. I just checked the other listings and it does offer calculated shipping (except for my ties, which are free shipping). It was my fault.

I’m so glad you are enjoying Dave. I listen to his show almost daily! It is motivating. It’s fun now as I’ve been listening for so long, I usually know what he’ll say! LOL

  2. I’ve had both of the problems mentioned above. I ended up just deleting everything from my store and then re-uploading it. It fixed the shipping for me and also the duplicate listings. Hope that helps!

    1. I was about to do that when I double checked and everything seems to be working. It was the approval thing that messed me up. I needed to manually add shipping and I didn’t do so. So I approved the order without shipping. Lesson learned. They are all set correctly now, WITHOUT needing approval. I will have to double check for duplicates though. Thanks for stopping by Melissa.

  3. Let us know how this gets resolved, Margaret. This is why I haven’t imported my listings into Bonanza yet. I heard over at Scavenger Life that when it imports from eBay, it doesn’t import calculated shipping info. At over 1,000 listings, the idea of editing each one individually in Bonanza makes me cringe.

    1. Kimberly, read my reply to Nancy above. It was my fault completely. I now realize that when I approved the order, I was the one that did not add the shipping to the order. I have since changed setting to not require approval. I think I accidentally marked that…not knowing what it was for. Everything else seems to be fine now. You SHOULD do it. It’s very simple (although it took several days to import the Ebay inventory as I was like the 20,000th person doing it). You should start importing asap. There is a slight learning curve for everything, but this was simple.

  4. Margaret,
I just emptied my Bonanza store today. I gave up on it. Never had one sale or inquiry. I didn’t like their listing form either, especially the shipping info part. It was not very clear.

    1. I sold my cookie within the first week I activated it. Who knows when I’ll get my next one, but I think it has to do with the amount of inventory. It’s just another platform to sell on. So far, I like it!

      1. Oh, I did figure out the shipping. Everything works fine. It was my mistake on having “approve all order” selected in settings, and then manually not adding the shipping to that one. Totally my fault.

  5. Margaret as you are my “go-to” person these days for e-bay enquiries I wonder if you can help me with an Esty question?

I have been listing and fortunately selling some vintage/retro sewing patterns and needlework magazines on e-bay. Starting them at a low price and only getting sales at either the low starting price or a little bit over. But I see that over at esty similar things are listed at higher starting prices and seem to sell for the lister.

I am thinking of setting up over there but even though I look through everything and read the help pages etc I can not figure out how the amount for postage is factored in? Postage this side of the pond can be expensive and although some of the items might be popular on your side of the pond I don’t want to end up subsidising the buyer. Where on the esty listing can I add in how much I want/need for the postage? Help please.

    Those bagels look wonderful!

    1. Hi iforonwy. Hmm. I have no idea really. I have often thought about opening up an Etsy shop, but it’s just another think to have to learn. But I did find this short video on Youtube that talks a bit about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7NU5ErqukQ

I know it’s different, but she goes into the shipping options page on etsy. If you’ve figured out what the cost with Royal Mail would be, there’s a place to enter that info. I just went on etsy and found a seller from Vienna on the front page. And when I clicked on her listing, it allowed me to click the US, add my postal code and it gave me the shipping cost.

I wish I could help you more, but I’m not familiar with that platform. Good luck with that! Hope you are doing well!

  6. Sorry to be so slow in getting back to you. I used to get e-mail notifications of comments on your blog but I seem to have slipped off that radar. Things are very slow on e-bay for me at the moment and those that I have sold to seem to not bother in posting feedback. That is even when I send them an e-mail stating the time and date I posted the item and asking that they let me know whether or not the item has arrived. Ah well.
I have just hopefully re-set my settings to get your e-mail notifications.

    1. Hi Iforonwy. I’m sorry, I somehow missed this comment. Things have been going pretty well on ebay. This past week was my best ever at a just a little over $400. Listing is really helping. But prior to that..things were really slow. Hope you are having a wonderful spring!
